Work packages

The project was organized into 3 components interacting with each other and run by leader.

WP1 Coordination (CIRAD-AIDA)

The objective was to: (i) coordinate and manage how the activities and the general communication of the project worked in relation to the ACP Secretariat, (ii) develop a capacity to submit projects for partners, (iii) and promote African participation in the International Cotton Researchers' Association.

WP2 Sustainability indicators (CIRAD-AIDA / Geocoton)

The aim was to initiate a process of adoption and Africanization of sustainability indicators in cotton production. This process was also accompanied by exchanges between stakeholders in the supply chains on the adaptations to be implemented in production data evaluation and monitoring systems (use of NTICS). Recent computer tools were presented and partly adapted to the collection (example: use of tactile tablets), analysis and historicalization of production data.

WP3 Technical innovations (CORAF/WECARD / Geocoton)

The aim was to identify technological breakthroughs in the world and analyse their potential. The first task of this WP was to develop a dynamic grid for translating production constraints into technical innovation specifications, for the dissemination, sharing and mutual appraisal of technical innovations, regard to the sustainability criteria for cotton sector systems (developed in WP2). There were two technical workshops on innovations, one at the beginning to carry out an inventory and one at the end of the project to critically examine the selected innovations.

WP4 Exchange portal (CIRAD-TETIS / ACA)

During the project, a collaborative information exchange space was provided for internal management of the entire project. An Internet web portal was designed to provide a space for the dissemination of innovations produced by the activities, offering references, technical and economic information on cotton and news from the sector. This portal is connected to the other exchange sites of cotton professionals in Africa (APROCA, ACA, Geocoton, etc.) and worldwide (ICAC, ICRA, etc.).
